Materials management

All goods and services necessary for the production process are procured by Materials Management. With the selection of the sources of supply the criterias of quality, price and security of supply are the center of attention.

Coke

We use coke as the solid fuel for the blast furnaces, which is produced predominantly in our own coking plant on the basis of coking coal.

Iron ore

For steel production from pig iron, iron ores, preferentially from Brazil, Canada and Australia are used.

Fluxes

The fluxes, such as lime or olivine are sourced from regional and international producers.

Alloys

For the production of more than 1,500 different steel products we use high-quality Fe alloys and metals of many different kinds in the steel plant.

Apart from the supply of raw materials Materials Management also provides for the purchasing and the adequate storage of different process materials, spare parts and fireproof materials. Beyond that Materials Management is responsible for all transport services and for the procurement of complete plants, e.g. blast furnaces, continuous casting installations and machine tools.
