Production process

The blast furnace process is the basis for steel making at HKM. The pig iron production operates two blast furnaces with a production capacity of approx. 5.2 million tons of pig iron per year.

Sample removal during the blast furnace tapping Ladle transport

The supply of the blast furnaces with materials is achieved in the preliminary stages in the integrated coking plant and burden preparation, in which coke and sinters are produced.

Ores and pellets usable directly in the blast furnace are unloaded in the HKM works habour and supplied after sieving to the blast furnaces. The produced pig iron is transported in ladles by means of a railway to the steel plant.
