Mineral aggregates
Per year approximately 2.0 million tons of mineral materials are produced at HKM apart from coke, sinter, pig iron, raw steel and continuous casting input materials.
80 % of the total arising is supplied as standardized products for roads, paths, ground, dump and water architecture as well as for the cement industry. The remaining 20 % is used in internal or external recycling processes.
Ecological potential
With a complete use of these mineral materials we make an important contribution to the protection of natural resources and for energy conservation.
So the ecological balance in the context of the supply of e.g. 500,000 tons of granulated blast-furnace slag (glassily solidified blastfurnace slag) for cement production shows the following potential:
Avoidance of
- 750,000 tons raw materials excavation
- 60,000 tons primary energy use
- 400,000 tons CO2 emissions
The complete use of the mineral materials is attained by purposeful influencing control on product quality within the metallurgical stages up to the preparation processes with implemented quality assurance systems.
Environmental compatibility
Apart from the technological characteristics special attention is given to the question of the environmental compatibility of the products in the framework of internal and external inspection. The monitoring results also show that water resource requirements are met.
Coal by-products
By-products such as crude tar, crude benzene and sulphuric acid resulting from the processing of the coke-oven gas, find use in the chemical industry as output or reaction products.
