The HKM successes can be seen in important key figures:
80 million tons of raw steel have been produced since our establishment with the compact iron and steel plant with high speed equipment, a productivity increase has been obtained of 100 per cent.
Unique world-wide with: A very broadly specialised production program with round and slab continuous casting, dimensions and steel goods of the highest quality in only one steel plant enterprise.
Emissions have been reduced by 20 per cent and energy consumption reduced at the same time by ten per cent. And the accident numbers even fell by 60 per cent.
Continual improvements
In the meantime transparent and fast controlling creates favourable conditions for continuous cost-conscious improvements. The monitor overtakes paper for online information. Time management optimises operational processes. Total Qualitiy Management judges and supports operational sequences and activities within all departments.
Since 2003 HKM has been certified according to the international standard EN14001 for the environment, EN9001 for quality and OHSAS 18001 for operational safety.
From the "illumination" of the business processes (management consultations also helped) measures were derived, which led to changes in organisational structure and operational sequences, for example consolidation of production and maintenance in line with the increase in productivity program PSP.
Due to its superior and innovative product range with steel grades for all areas of application, HKM is a recognized and sought-after problem solver. This becomes apparent in the results of the annual customer survey which scored an excellent mark of 1.98 in the year 2005.
Especially for capital-intensive enterprises, safeguarding the future requires the continuous and consistent advancement or renovation of the installed equipment technology. In the meantime, the entirely implemented investments since the foundation of HKM amount to just under 800 million Euro. With the shortly approved 400 million this sums up to over 1.2 billion Euro.
Jobs
Although the "old crew" has been reduced from 4,600 presently about 3,000, we have created 500 jobs with HKM preparatory enterprises and a further 1,300 with industrial settlements on the work area.

Therefore a slight plus of 200 places to altogether 4,800 jobs. The changes and improvements were always accompanied by the works representatives in trusting co-operation.
Partners
The partner structures at HKM have also changed with the passage of time. Today Thyssen Krupp Steel Europe AG has 50%, Salzgitter Mannesmann GmbH 30% and Vallourec & Mannesmann Tubes S.A.S 20%, the latter are corporations of Salzgitter AG.
